The Statue of Unity project was first announced in 2010, then CM of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modiji. The construction of the Statue of Unity was awarded to Larsen & Toubro in 2013. The Statue of unity was designed by Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar, and was inaugurated on 143rd anniversary of Sardar Patel's birth by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018.
